Ruth Lane

Biography

Ruth Lane has played with San Francisco Opera Orchestra and San Francisco Ballet Orchestra since 1990.  She received her Bachelor’s and Master of Music from University of Southern California while spending her summers on fellowship at Aspen Music Festival, Piatigorsky Seminar, and Banff Music Festival.  Her teachers have included William Pleeth and Lynn Harrell. Previously, she has been a principal cello with Carmel Bach Festival and Fresno Philharmonic. Most recently, she joined Temsecal String Quartet.

Lane has been heard in recitals in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and London. The Strad said of Lane’s work, “a cellist of scrupulous intentions and dexterous manual coordination…unimpeachable intonation and admirable poise.”

She resides in the country near Petaluma with her husband and two children.
