Jeremy Preston

Biography

Jeremy Preston is the principal second violinist of San Francisco Opera Orchestra, a tenured member of San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, and concertmaster of Mendocino Music Festival. Before this, he was associate concertmaster of Oakland East Bay Symphony and a longtime member of North Carolina Symphony for seven seasons. He has performed with many orchestras throughout the U.S. and the Bay Area, including San Francisco Symphony and New Century Chamber Orchestra. Preston is an avid chamber musician who has performed at Bay Area venues. Previously, he was a member of North Carolina String Quartet and frequently performed with Mallarme Chamber Players, Peace College Manning Chamber Players, New Music Raleigh, and Eastern Music Festival Chamber Players.

Preston’s teachers have trained at New England Conservatory of Music, Rice University, and Cleveland Institute of Music, including Marylou Speaker Churchill, Lynn Chang, Kathleen Winkler, Sally Thomas, and William Preucil. His chamber music coaches have included Norman Fisher, Pamela, and Claude Frank and members of Cleveland Quartert and Juilliard String Quartet.

Preston maintains an active teaching studio out of his apartment in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. He loves living and hiking in the beautiful city of San Francisco.
