Minsun Choi

Biography

Minsun Choi joined San Francisco Ballet Orchestra as the first violin player in 2019. A native of Seoul, South Korea, she began her violin studies at the age of six and earned her Bachelor of Music at Seoul National University in 2002.

In 2004, Choi came to the United States on a full scholarship to continue her violin studies at Peabody Institute, where she received a Master of Music and an Artist Diploma. While studying in the U.S., Minsun won first prize at the Corpus Christi International Competition in Texas. She was also awarded a fellowship to participate at the Aspen Music Festival and School, where she collaborated in chamber music concerts with principal players from Metropolitan Opera and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

As an active chamber musician, Choi is a founder of The Hampton Trio. They perform frequently in the New York Metropolitan Area. In the fall of 2006, Choi and The Hampton Trio made their debut at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. Choi played with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from 2007 to 2015 as a contracted guest musician. In addition, she taught violin for Howard Community College till 2015. In 2016, she moved to California and currently lives in Sunnyvale with her husband and their daughter.
