Biography

Scott Thornton is a principal bass trombonist for San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Thornton started playing the trombone in the sixth grade in the public school system. He later switched to the bass trombone in the eighth grade.

Thornton received his Bachelor of Music from University of Houston. Thornton holds a Master of Music from The Juilliard School. As a student at Juilliard, he won his position at San Francisco Ballet Orchestra in 1995.

Thornton has performed with New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, Minnesota Symphony, Houston Symphony, The Juilliard Orchestra, and Tanglewood Music Festival Orchestra. His work in the recording studio at Skywalker Sound includes performances on many soundtracks for movies, video games, and commercials.

Scott lives in Petaluma, California with his wife, Laura, and their three sons Jacob, Logan, and Caleb.
