2017 Summer Camp & Pre-Ballet Classes

July 5–28, 2017

San Francisco Ballet School at Miss Tilly's
San Francisco Ballet School is expanding its summer programming, offering Summer Ballet Camp and classes in July in the Richmond district studio of Tilly Abbe, a former SF Ballet dancer known as “Miss Tilly” to the generations of young San Franciscans she has taught. SF Ballet School will hold two programs, taught by SF Ballet School faculty, in the California Street studios. On offer are daily pre-ballet classes for children ages 4–7 as well as four different one-week ballet camps for children ages 8–11 who have some ballet experience, although no audition is required. Summer Ballet Camp will include ballet technique and strength and stretch classes in the morning followed by ballet-themed activities, the chance to learn children’s roles from SF Ballet’s repertory, and classes in different styles of dance in the afternoon.

BALLET SUMMER CAMP
Continue your ballet training through the summer with some serious fun! Each morning will focus on a ballet class with an SF Ballet School faculty member to help students maintain their focused training over the summer break. Ballet technique will be supplemented with a stretch and strength class involving floor-based barre and Pilates exercises. Students will have a break for a brown-bag lunch and transition into camp activities designed to enhance their ballet education: design a ballet story set diorama or make your traditional Swan Lake headpiece. Repertoire classes will include choreography from the children’s roles in SF Ballet's story ballet productions. The day will cap off with a chance to let your hair down; each week, students will be exposed to a different style of dance that is highlighted in San Francisco Ballet productions from contemporary and jazz to traditional Chinese dancing. Sign up for one or more week-long camps in July.
