GUEST STARS NATALIA OSIPOVA, DANIEL CAMARGO, AND JACOPO TISSI TO PERFORM IN SAN FRANCISCO BALLET’S SWAN LAKE ENCORE, APRIL 30–MAY 5

Tickets to Swan Lake encore performances are on sale today

(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) Monday, March 4, 2024—San Francisco Ballet (SF Ballet) today announced the international guest stars scheduled to perform in the encore performances of Swan Lake, April 30–May 5: Natalia Osipova (The Royal Ballet), Daniel Camargo (American Ballet Theatre), and Jacopo Tissi (Dutch National Ballet), who will partner with SF Ballet principal dancers in the iconic roles of Odette-Odile and Prince Siegfried.  

Artistic Director Tamara Rojo says, “I am thrilled to welcome these Stars to San Francisco, a city that loves ballet, and I can’t wait for them to share our stage and their world renown artistry with our wonderful company and audience.” 

Casting details for each evening will be released in the weeks prior to opening.  

GUEST ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES  

Natalia Osipova
Born in Moscow, Osipova trained at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy and joined the Bolshoi Ballet in 2004, and was promoted to principal in 2010. She has performed as a guest artist with leading international companies. She was a principal with the Mikhailovsky Ballet and American Ballet Theatre before joining The Royal Ballet in 2013. Her repertory with the Company includes Anastasia, Kitri, Lise, Manon, Juliet, Odette/ Odile, Sugar Plum Fairy, Giselle, Titania, Natalia Petrovna, Tatiana, Marguerite, Mary Vetsera, Sylvia, Cinderella, Gamzatti and Nikiya (La Bayadère) and roles in women with water, Rhapsody, DGV: Danse à grande vitesse, Serenade, Raymonda Act III and Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, among others. She has created numerous roles–in concerto pour deux, The Weathering, Strapless, Woolf Works, Tetractys, Connectome, Medusa and works by Possokhov, Ratmansky and others. Awards include Golden Mask Awards (2008, 2009), Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards (Best Female Dancer, 2007, 2010 and 2014; Outstanding Female Classical Performance, 2022), Positano Dance Awards (Best Female Dancer, 2008, 2011) and a Benois de la Danse (Best Female Dancer, 2008). 

Daniel Camargo
Daniel Camargo was born in Sorocaba, Brazil. He joined the John Cranko School in Stuttgart, Germany in 2005, studying under the Russian teacher Peter Pestov. After graduating in 2009, Camargo joined the Stuttgart Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet and was promoted to soloist in 2012. He was appointed principal dancer with Stuttgart Ballet in 2013. In 2016, he joined Dutch National Ballet as a principal dancer. In 2009, Camargo received an award from the European Cultural Foundation. He received the Future Award from German Dance Prize in 2010 and won the Audience Choice Award at The Erik Bruhn Prize competition in 2011. He was awarded the Premio Positano in Italy in 2017 and was nominated for the Benois de la Danse in 2018 and 2019. Camargo has performed with several international ballet companies, including the Stuttgart Ballet, The Australian Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Opera di Roma, Czech National Ballet, the Finnish National Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet, The Tokyo Ballet, The Kremlin Ballet, the Mariinsky Theatre, and The Royal Ballet. Camargo made his first appearance with American Ballet Theatre as a Guest Artist in the summer of 2022 before joining the Company as a Principal Dancer in September of that year.  His repertoire with ABT includes Basilio in Don Quixote (Act III), Oberon in The Dream, Albrecht in Giselle, Pedro in Like Water for Chocolate, the Nutcracker Prince in Ratmansky’s The Nutcracker, Dionysius in Of Love and Rage, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, and a leading role in Songs of Bukovina. 

Jacopo Tissi
Jacopo Tissi studied at the Scala Theatre Academy where he was taught by Maurizio Vanadia and Leonid Nikonov. After graduating with honors in 2014, he joined the Vienna State Opera Ballet under the direction of Manuel Legris. In the 2015/16 season, he joined the corps de ballet at La Scala Opera Theatre directed by Makhar Vaziev, and a few months later made his debut performing the role of Prince Desiré in the world première of Sleeping Beauty (Ratmansky) partnered by Svetlana Zakharova. In 2017, Tissi joined the Bolshoi Ballet directed by Makhar Vaziev, under the guidance of highly acclaimed Russian artist Alexander Vetrov; he was the first Italian dancer to become part of the Russian theatre company. During his first season there he was promoted to the rank of first solo dancer and performed lead roles in Lander’s Études; Balanchine’s Jewels; Grigorovich’s Swan Lake (Siegfried), The Nutcracker, and La Bayadère (Solor); Raymonda (Jean de Brienne); and Burlaka and Ratmansky after Petipa’s Le Corsaire – Grand pas des éventails. In 2018, Tissi returned to La Scala Theatre with the Bolshoi Ballet to perform Solor in La Bayadère. That same year, at the Mariinsky Theatre he performed La Bayadère, partnered by Svetlana Zakharova. In 2019, he was invited by The Royal Ballet as a guest artist to perform the role of Romeo in MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet, partnered by principal dancer Marianela Nuñez. Tissi is the recipient of the Danza&Danza prizes for best new talent and best Italian dancer abroad; the Prix Ballet 2000; the Ambrogino d’oro, the highest honor given by the city of Milan; and the Premio Positano prize and a theatrical arts award from “La Roma Russa” festival. Tissi is former principal dancer at Bolshoi Theatre, guest artist at Teatro alla Scala Milan, Teatro dell’Opera of Roma and currently principal dancer at the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam.
