About Director’s Choice

Experience a Taste of Classical and Contemporary Ballet

Program 2: Classical (Re)Vision is a tasting flight of contemporary ballet featuring Stanton Welch’s updated classicism in Bespoke and Mark Morris’s quirky cool in Sandpaper Ballet. Between these two works is a rotating group of ballets called “Director’s Choice.”

Director’s Choice is made up of “gala style” pieces—ballet terminology for a series of short ballets or excerpts that showcase individual dancers—that illuminate the range of the company’s artists. Depending on the night you come, you’ll see a selection of three of these shorter works. That means if you like surprises, just show up and see what’s in store. If you like to plan ahead: details about which ballets you’ll see which night are available below. And there’s never any harm in coming more than once to catch all three versions of the Director’s Choice program!
