Thamires Chuvas was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and trained at Ateliê da Dança, Escola Estadual de Dança Maria Olenewa, Companhia Jovem de Ballet do Rio de Janeiro, and San Francisco Ballet School, where she was in the Trainee Program. She was named an apprentice in 2014 and joined the Company in 2015.
Chuvas has danced featured roles in Tomasson’s Romeo & Juliet (Juliet’s Friends) and Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote (Bridesmaids). Her repertory also includes Tomasson’s Giselle (Peasants and Wilis) and Nutcracker (Snowflakes and Flowers); Balanchine’s Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet (3rd movement), The Four Temperaments (Sanguinic corps), Serenade, the 4th movement and finale from Symphony in C, and excerpts from Theme and Variations; Makarova’s (after Petipa) “The Kingdom of the Shades” from La Bayadère, Act II; Ratmansky’s Shostakovich Trilogy (Piano Concerto #1); Robbins’ Glass Pieces; and Wheeldon’s Cinderella. As a San Francisco Ballet School Trainee, Chuvas danced Tomasson’s Bizet Pas de Deux and Simple Symphony, Maynard’s Among the Cypress and Fractals, and Thatcher’s Spectrum and Stone and Steel.
Chuvas danced in the 2015 film of Tomasson’s Romeo & Juliet (Juliet’s Friends) as part of the inaugural season of Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance.
