Prologue — At the Lake
Once upon a time, there was a princess named Odette. She had just lost her parents, the King and Queen, in a strange accident. Only one person survived: Rothbart, the royal advisor — but he had a secret. He wanted the kingdom for himself.
Odette had a close friend, Odile, whom she trusted completely. What she didn’t know was that Odile was really Rothbart’s daughter, helping him all along.
One day, Odile led her to a lake deep in the forest, where Rothbart was waiting. He asked Odette to marry him. When she refused, he grew furious and cast a spell on her, transforming her into a beautiful white swan. She would remain a swan forever — unless she agreed to marry him. Only a vow of true, unconditional love, sworn before all the world, could break the spell.
Act One — The Castle Garden
In a nearby kingdom lived a prince named Siegfried. For his birthday, his mother gave him a gift — a crossbow. Siegfried was thrilled; he loved hunting. While he showed it off to his friends, his mother pulled him aside. It was time, she told him, to think about his future.
At his birthday party the next day, he would have to choose a bride. Siegfried wasn’t ready. He wanted one more day of adventure. So, when his friends spotted a flock of swans overhead, he grabbed his new crossbow and dashed into the woods to follow them.
Act Two — At the Lake
When Siegfried reached the lake, he saw the most beautiful swan. But the moment she touched the water, she transformed into a creature that was half human, half swan.
Startled by his crossbow, she shrank back in fear. Siegfried quickly set it down and moved toward her slowly, careful not to frighten her.
She told him her name was Odette, Queen of the Swans, and that all of them were trapped under a curse cast by a wicked sorcerer — breakable only by true, unconditional love. Siegfried had never met anyone like her. Together, they danced by the water under the moonlight, and he swore his love to her. But Odette told him it wasn’t enough — his vow had to be made before all the world.
“Come to the palace tomorrow,” the prince said, “and I will swear it there.”
Hidden in the shadows, sly Rothbart was watching, already planning his next trick. He had seen enough to know their love could ruin everything he had worked for.
Act Three — The Royal Ball
The next night, the castle sparkled for Siegfried’s birthday ball. Princesses arrived from far and wide, but Siegfried could only think of Odette.
Suddenly, a mysterious girl arrived, dressed all in black. She looked just like Odette! But it wasn’t her — it was Odile, transformed by her father’s magic to trick the prince.
Blinded by the resemblance, Siegfried saw only Odette in her — and swore his love to the wrong swan. Just then, he turned and saw the real Odette, who had been trying to warn him all night. Heartbroken, she fled.
Act Four — Back at the Lake
Odette ran back to the lake, crying, believing her true love had broken his promise. Sadness fell over the swans — then they sensed danger: Rothbart was near.
They huddled to hide her, but he found her and lunged to grab her, until the swans drove him away.
Just then Siegfried arrived, searching through the swans. Finding Odette, he sank to his knees in despair, thinking he’d lost her forever. But new strength grew inside her — she pulled him close, and their hearts beat as one.
Rothbart tried to pull them apart, then turned his power on Siegfried instead. Odette cried out with all her heart, showing her true love for the world to hear. Rothbart’s power faded, and the swans chased him off for good.
The spell was broken — soon everyone would be free.
Odette showed everyone something wonderful: love lives inside each of us, and sharing it bravely can break any spell.
