Why Join?

Whether you’re brand new to ballet or a lifelong fan, YPC has a place for you! Our members have a wide variety of experiences, but what they share is a desire to deepen their involvement and support of San Francisco Ballet.

YPC is in part a social organization. From our Thursday pre and post-performance gatherings to behind-the-scenes experiences and special events, YPC provides many opportunities to meet and engage with other members throughout the year.

YPC is philanthropically invested in SF Ballet. The majority of YPC membership dues directly support the ballet. We work to reduce the cost of our events and maximize our contribution to the ballet through community partnerships and sponsorships. If you or someone you know would like to sponsor an event, please email us at ypc@sfballet.org.

By joining YPC, members become donors to the ballet. YPC members at the Soloist & Principal levels are invited to join a selected subset of exclusive donor events at the ballet and all YPC members are given an opportunity to experience SF Ballet’s signature fundraising events such as the Opening Night Gala and the Spring Showcase Dinner at a generous discount.

Frequently asked questions

I'm not sure if I'm young enough for YPC. Can I still join?

The Young Patrons Circle aims to cultivate the next generation of San Francisco Ballet supporters. While there’s no strict age limit, the program is designed with individuals aged 21–40 in mind—those looking to build a deeper connection with San Francisco Ballet through curated events and exclusive experiences.

If YPC doesn’t feel like the right fit, we invite you to explore our other volunteer groups below. You may discover an opportunity that better aligns with your interests and enhances your experience with the Ballet.

BRAVO is a group of more than 300 ballet enthusiasts whose volunteer support is vital to the ongoing operations of San Francisco Ballet.

San Francisco Ballet Auxiliary spearheads initiatives and events that raise more than $4 million annually for San Francisco Ballet. Membership is by invitation only.

San Francisco Ballet’s Christensen Society and Chairman’s Council are enthusiastic communities of ballet supporters who receive exclusive event invitations throughout the year, along with curated benefits that enhance their performance experience. To learn more, reach out to cs@sfballet.org.

Which events are Soloist/Principal exclusive and which are open to all members?

All YPC members are welcome to attend our Thursday night performance events. Access to special events for Soloist and Principal members may vary each year. In the past, these exclusive events have included:

  • Staging Frankenstein: A unique artist talk with Principal Dancer Joseph Walsh and former Soloist Lauren Strongin about their experience setting Frankenstein for the stage at San Francisco Ballet
  • An exclusive Fireside Chat with San Francisco Ballet’s Executive Director Branislav Henselmann
  • A special pre-performance cocktail hour in the Jeannik Méquet Littlefield Intermezzo Lounge in the War Memorial Opera House
Do I need to know anything about ballet?

No! Participating in YPC will help develop your appreciation and understanding of the art form. Our members have a wide range of experiences from never having seen a ballet to spending their entire childhood dancing at San Francisco Ballet School. The continued excellence of San Francisco Ballet relies on building a supporter base as diverse as our city.

Do I need to buy performance tickets to attend YPC events?

Many of our events throughout the season are intended to highlight the wonderful programming at the ballet, and these events do require a performance ticket. YPC members receive access to discounted performance tickets for these events. Several events each season do not require performance tickets. Generally, if it’s a Thursday night event, you’ll need a ticket!

I want to come, but I'm a little nervous about attending alone. What should I do?

Shoot us an email to say hi and let us know! A member of our board will make sure you feel welcome.

Is there a code of conduct for YPC?

Yes. We expect all our members and their guests to behave courteously and respectfully to everyone at our events including, but not limited to, one another, and all San Francisco Ballet and venue staff. If your or your guest’s conduct does not meet this expectation, you will be contacted by a member of the YPC Board. Egregious or repeated violations will result in a loss of membership. Community partners and venues may have their own rules and policies for which YPC members are also expected to comply.

What's the dress code for YPC events?

We do not have a dress code for most of our events, though most of our members like to dress up beyond SF casual! The Opening Night Gala is always a black-tie event. If you have a specific question, please email us and ask!

Am I eligible for SFB donor benefits?

Yes! YPC members will be included in the corresponding donor group automatically. Emails about these benefits come from rsvp@sfballet.org.

Can I switch membership tiers mid-season?

You cannot downgrade tiers, but in certain instances, you may upgrade tiers during the season by making a donation to the ballet in the amount of the difference between the desired tier and your current tier. Please notify us for approval prior to completing these steps by emailing ypc@sfballet.org, as the change must be completed manually.

I love YPC and San Francisco Ballet. How do I get more involved?

Joining YPC at the Soloist or Principal level is a great way to get more involved and gives you more behind-the-scenes access. Additionally, we are also always open to receiving feedback to improve your experience! If you have feedback, please email us at ypc@sfballet.org or if you would like to remain anonymous, complete our annual Membership Experience Survey released near the end of the season.

If you are interested in joining the YPC board, keep an eye on your inbox in late spring when we release our annual call for applications. We appreciate your support as we grow our organization!
