Felipe Leon
Biography
Felipe Leon was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and brings over a decade of experience in both professional dance and ballet education across professional, pre-professional, and outreach programs. He has taught in the Trainee Program at Diablo Ballet, served as Rehearsal Director for Dance Laboratory, and held the role of Assistant Rehearsal Director for Diablo Ballet. Felipe was also a faculty member at Diablo Ballet School and has worked in outreach programs for underserved youth and at-risk teens throughout California.
He is currently part of the faculty at the San Francisco Ballet School’s Adult Division and the Youth and Teen Program at ODC School. Felipe is the creator of Dance Laboratory—a platform for emerging choreographic voices—and co-founder of 326 Studios in San Francisco, a space dedicated to innovation through dance and multimedia collaboration.
As a performer, Felipe is a resident dancer with the San Francisco Opera, a National Choreographers Initiative alumni, and a former artist with Diablo Ballet. His repertoire includes works by Matthew Neenan, Danielle Rowe, Penny Saunders, Stanton Welch, Julia Adam, KT Nelson, Lew Christensen, Claudia Schreier, Maurice Béjart, and appearances in numerous operas.
He received his training at Ballet Academy East in New York City under the mentorship of Darla Hoover, Wendy Whelan, Maxim Beloserkovsky, Gonzalo Garcia, Charles Askegard, and Peter Frame, with additional studies in Colombia and Europe.
