Introduce your students to the thrilling excitement of live dance by joining San Francisco Ballet for one of our Student Matinee performances. They are a wonderful way to expose students to the transformative power of creativity through the performing arts. Designed especially for school groups, these engaging and interactive performances captivate students’ imaginations with dazzling choreography, memorable music, and spectacular sets and costumes. Student Matinees are recommended for students in grades 2–6, ages 7–12.
Each educational 75-minute interactive program includes:
- An introduction to ballet as an art form
- Performances by SF Ballet professional dancers and pre-professional Trainees from the SF Ballet School, accompanied by the SF Ballet Orchestra
- Excerpts from some of the Company’s most extraordinary works
- Insights into the career of a professional dancer with SF Ballet

All Student Matinee tickets are $10* per person.
Student Matinees of Cinderella and A Midsummer Night’s Dream are suggested for school groups grades 2–8, ages 7–14. Student Matinees are for youth audiences and school groups.
*A minimum purchase of 10 tickets is required to qualify for the Student Matinee price.
Educational student groups, K–12 schools, and homeschool groups only, please. Wheelchair spaces are available; please indicate how many wheelchair accessible spaces are needed when ordering. Confirmation of your order request will be sent via email. Admission maps will be sent approximately two weeks prior to the performance date. Increases to processed ticket orders will be allowed on a space-available basis only. No refunds or exchanges.
To ensure a great experience for everyone, no children under age five, including babes in arms. Everyone entering the Opera House, regardless of age, must have a ticket, and children must occupy their own seat.
FREE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP PRE-STUDENT MATINEE
On January 11, 2020, San Francisco Ballet is holding a free Professional Development Workshop open to all K-12 teachers and homeschool educators! Join us for a 2-hour workshop that will introduce dance education activities and lessons that you can use in the classroom to support the core curriculum, and to prepare your students to see a SF Ballet Student Matinee. You will receive free materials, resources, and easy-to-use lesson plans to use before the performance to prepare your students for the Student Matinee and help them reflect on the ballets after the show. This workshop is open to all educators, no purchased Student Matinee tickets are required to attend. Both the Cinderella and A Midsummer Night's Dream Student Matinees will be discussed.

Student Matinee Docent Program
Each year SF Ballet offers a limited number of free, in-class/pre-performance docent visits to Title I schools attending the Student Matinee. Led by SF Ballet’s team of trained docents, these 35-40 minute interactive presentations are specifically designed to enhance students’ experience at the Student Matinee performance and introduce them to the story behind the ballet, the music they will hear, and key ballet concepts.

Student Matinee Subsidized Tickets for TITLE I Schools
San Francisco Ballet is pleased to offer a very limited number of partial or fully-subsidized tickets to Title I schools to attend the Student Matinee performances. Due to the limited availability of tickets, Title I schools may request a maximum of 30 tickets per school (not per classroom). Requirements: 1) only Title I schools will be considered; 2) at least one teacher from your school must attend a free professional development workshop at SF Ballet; 3) your school must submit a post-performance evaluation and student worksheets by the end of the school year (evaluation and student worksheets to be provided by SF Ballet).
