Class Levels and Times
STUDIO: SATURDAYS 1:45–3:15 PM, SEPTEMBER 6, 2025 – MAY 16, 2026
This class will serve as an introduction to the modern dance technique of Lester Horton. This technique emphasizes both strength and flexibility through codified center and across-the-floor exercises. All levels of dance experience are welcome.
STUDIO: Fall 2025 dates TBD
It is recommended that students have taken at least 1-3 years of ballet and are able to take one of our ballet technique classes from 3:30 - 5 pm before the workshop, so that students are warm and can get straight to working on turns.
This special workshop is for ballet students who want to focus on improving the technique of their turns. We will focus on exercises designed to better understand and develop skills needed for a clean execution of pirouettes. Students will get personalized feedback during this session as every body and level of experience is different and the needs of each individual may vary. We will work on spotting, coordination of the arms and legs, proper alignment of the body and tips on how to feel more comfortable while turning.
During this session we will also clarify concepts like en dehors and en dedans (inside and outside turns) as well as preparation and landing for pirouettes from 5th and 4th positions.
The workshop will involve both center and across the floor exercises where students will practice and perfect chaines, pique turns, pirouettes en dehors and en dedans from 4th position and possibly work on grand pirouettes (a la seconde, attitude devant, derrière and arabesque). Some students might progress to working on fouetté turns.

“I love dance, but I feel discouraged when I attempt standard classes because there is so much I can’t do. Cecelia’s class highlighted that there is still much that I CAN do, and I really appreciated that.”
– Lacee S.
“Cecelia has truly created a community among the regulars. The class means more to the participants than an exercise course only. But apart from the warmth that Cecelia imparts throughout the group, the class really is terrific exercise. I always feel much better after a class with Cecelia, and I know that the others feel the same.”
– Harriet R.
“It's a wonderful opportunity for those of us of a certain age who love ballet to participate in the art form.”
– Susie T.
“Gentle Ballet is a true gem. Cecelia has mastered the art of teaching ballet on Zoom.”
– Jane W.
