Introducing Tiny Dances—San Francisco Ballet’s new family series created especially for children ages 2 to 8. Designed as a joyful first ballet experience, Tiny Dances features shorter performances, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and all the wonder of live ballet, thoughtfully tailored for young audiences.

TINY DANCES: SWAN LAKE

Our inaugural production reimagines the timeless magic of Swan Lake especially for children. Adapted by SF Ballet Associate Artistic Director Antonio Castilla, this enchanting version features family-friendly storytelling and an on-stage narrator who guides children through the adventure while preserving the beauty, music, and choreography of the beloved classic.

Performed at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre by SF Ballet School’s pre-professional Trainees and Level 8 students, Tiny Dances is more than a performance—it’s a day of discovery.

A MEMORABLE FAMILY-FUN DAY

There’s a world of wonder waiting for you. The adventure begins in the lobby before the curtain rises. Each Tiny Dances performance will offer engaging pre-show lobby activities and participatory dance experiences for the young and young at heart. All performances offer a quiet space in the lobby for audience members who need to take a break during the performance, stroller parking, concessions, and more.

Once the performance begins, the story of Swan Lake is brought to life in a joyful, relaxed, age-appropriate format that’s just the right length for young children. The adapted story invites young audiences to discover Swan Lake with a fresh, uplifting spin on the ballet’s traditionally tragic ending, reimagining the character of Odette as a heroine in charge of her own story.

Filled with dazzling choreography, spectacular costumes and sets, beloved classical music, and engaging storytelling, Tiny Dances opens the door to the world of ballet. Whether it’s a child’s very first visit to the theater or the beginning of a lifelong love of dance, Tiny Dances is a joyful introduction to the magic of ballet the whole family will enjoy!
