Step inside a world where myth meets modern day. Mere Mortals reimagines the story of Pandora’s Jar through the lens of our tech-driven age. Exploring eternal philosophical questions through the timely subject of artificial intelligence, this ballet examines the promises and perils of humankind forging new paths in unknown territory. This fully immersive experience fuses movement, music, and cutting-edge visuals into a breathtaking sensory journey.

Commissioned as a world premiere for Artistic Director Tamara Rojo’s inaugural season, the program returns as a fusion of electronic music, festival culture, and contemporary ballet—an otherworldly journey all around.

Witness the visionary choreography of Aszure Barton come alive alongside composer Floating Points, performing live with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra at every performance. In a city defined by innovation and technology, Mere Mortals is a provocative, unforgettable exploration of progress, creativity, and the human spirit. No doubt an experience you’ll feel long after the curtain falls.

NOTE: Mere Mortals has flashing lights which may trigger those who are photosensitive. The live orchestra and electronic music will be amplified.

Tamara Rojo on Balanchine

Eugene Onegin is a richly layered and deeply human exploration of love, regret, and the heart’s fragility. Resident Choreographer Yuri Possokhov’s world premiere brings new depth to Alexander Pushkin’s classic, where a single choice alters the course of a life.
