Legacy Orchestral Composition Competition
A MUSICAL ARROW TO THE FUTURE
The San Francisco Ballet Association in partnership with the members of The San Francisco Ballet Orchestra is proud to announce the new Legacy Orchestra Composition Competition as part of the orchestra’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Many pieces in orchestral repertoire move between the orchestra pit and the concert stage, and this competition is designed to seek out new masterworks. This competition will provide emerging composers with the rare opportunity to hear their music performed by a world-class orchestra and gain career-advancing recognition, financial support, and potential pathways for future commissions.
As part of our mission to develop new repertoire and support emerging composers, our goal with this competition is to create a 21st-century musical legacy that both engages and stimulates contemporary audiences and is as beloved and timeless as the music of our most esteemed historical ballet composers. The winner of the Legacy Orchestra Composition Competition will be awarded a $7,500 prize, along with opportunities for the composition to be performed.
