Grace Shibley, from Portland, Oregon, received her training at the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre and Portland Metro Performing Arts. She became an apprentice at Oregon Ballet Theatre in 2006 and joined the company in 2007. She joined San Francisco Ballet in 2013.
She has danced principal or featured roles in Tomasson’s Nutcracker (Arabian) and Romeo & Juliet (Lady Capulet and Rosaline), Wheeldon’s Cinderella (Cinderella’s Mother and Balinese Princess), Balanchine’s Agon (pas de trois) and The Four Temperaments (1st and 3rd Themes), Caniparoli’s Lambarena, and Possokhov’s Firebird (Princess).
Shibley’s repertory also includes Tomasson’s Giselle; Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote (Driads, Fandango); Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet (3rd and 4th movements), Serenade, Symphony in C (4th movement and finale), and excerpts from Theme and Variations; Lifar’s Suite en Blanc (Sieste), Makarova’s (after Petipa) “The Kingdom of the Shades” from La Bayadère, Act II; Possokhov’s Swimmer; Ratmansky’s Shostakovich Trilogy (Symphony #9, Chamber Symphony, and Piano Concerto #1); Robbins’ Glass Pieces; Scarlett’s Hummingbird, and Wheeldon’s Rush and Within the Golden Hour. Before joining San Francisco Ballet, Shibley performed lead roles in Balanchine’s Apollo (Terpsichore), The Nutcracker, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, and Stravinsky Violin Concerto (Aria II); Robbins’s Afternoon of a Faun and The Concert; and Stowell’s The Rite of Spring.
