Grace Shibley, from Portland, Oregon, received her training at the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre and Portland Metro Performing Arts. She became an apprentice at Oregon Ballet Theatre in 2006 and joined the company in 2007. She joined San Francisco Ballet in 2013.
She has danced principal or featured roles in Tomasson’s Nutcracker (Arabian), Wheeldon’s Cinderella (Cinderella’s Mother and Balinese Princess), and Possokhov’s Firebird (Princess).
Her repertory also includes Tomasson’s Giselle; Balanchine’s Agon (pas de trois) and Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet (3rd and 4th movements); Lifar’s Suite en Blanc (Sieste), Makarova’s (after Petipa) Kingdom of the Shades, Act II from La Bayadère; Ratmansky’s Shostakovich Trilogy (Symphony #9, Chamber Symphony, and Piano Concerto #1); Robbins’ Glass Pieces; and Scarlett’s Hummingbird. Before joining San Francisco Ballet, Shibley performed lead roles in Balanchine’s The Nutcracker and Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, Nijinsky’s Afternoon of a Faun, and Stowell’s The Rite of Spring.
