From Guadalajara, Mexico, Esteban Hernandez trained at The Rock School in Philadelphia and at The Royal Ballet School in London. He joined San Francisco Ballet in 2013.
Hernandez has danced principal or featured roles in Tomasson’s Giselle (pas de cinq) and Nutcracker (Center Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Nutcracker Doll), Kobborg’s Les Lutins, and Lifar’s Suite en Blanc (pas de cinq). He created a corps de ballet role in Tomasson’s Caprice.
His repertory also includes Ratmansky’s From Foreign Lands (Italian, Spanish, and Hungarian); Possokhov’s Firebird and The Rite of Spring; Ratmansky’s Shostakovich Trilogy (Chamber Symphony); Robbins’ Glass Pieces; Scarlett’s Hummingbird; Tomasson’s The Fifth Season; and Wheeldon’s Cinderella (Autumn).
Hernandez received scholarships to attend The Rock School and summer intensives at Russia’s Vaganova Academy and at American Ballet Theatre. He has been honored with a Jerome Robbins Foundation Award and gold medals at the Youth America Grand Prix.
