Alexandra McCullagh Newman was born in San Francisco and trained at Marin Ballet with Cynthia Lucas and at San Francisco Ballet School prior to joining the Company in 2006.
McCullagh Newman has danced featured roles in Tomasson’s Giselle (Friend), Nutcracker (Doll and Spanish), and The Sleeping Beauty (Little Lilac, Nymph, and Garland Dance); Balanchine’s Coppélia (Friend and Bridesmaid), and Nureyev’s Raymonda—Act III (pas de trois).
Her repertory includes Tomasson’s Romeo & Juliet, Swan Lake, Chi-Lin, Criss-Cross (Avison-Scarlatti movement), “Haffner” Symphony, On a Theme of Paganini, The Fifth Season, and Trio; Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote; Balanchine’s Divertimento No. 15, The Four Temperaments, Serenade, Symphony in C, and Symphony in Three Movements; Fokine’s Petrouchka; Lifar’s Suite en Blanc; Morris’ Sandpaper Ballet; Possokhov’s Firebird and The Rite of Spring; Robbins’ Opus 19/The Dreamer and West Side Story Suite; Taylor’s Changes; Wheeldon’s Cinderella (Spring and Courtier), Ghosts, and Number Nine, and Zanella’s Underskin.
