Born in San Francisco, California, Max Cauthorn trained at San Francisco Ballet School for eight years, including two years in the Trainee Program. He was named an apprentice in 2013 and joined the Company in 2014.
Cauthorn has performed featured roles in Tomasson’s Giselle (peasant pas de cinq), Nutcracker (Chinese, Russian, and Bear), Romeo & Juliet (Acrobats), and Concerto Grosso; Caniparoli’s Tears; Lifar’s Suite en Blanc (pas de cinq); and Possokhov’s The Rite of Spring (Elders) and Swimmer (principal).
His repertory also includes Tomasson’s Caprice, Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, Caniparoli’s Lambarena, Morris’ Maelstrom, Possokhov’s Firebird, Ratmansky’s Shostakovich Trilogy (Symphony #9 and Piano Concerto #1), Robbins’ Glass Pieces, Thatcher’s Manifesto, and Wheeldon’s Cinderella (Autumn).
Cauthorn danced in the 2015 film of Tomasson’s Romeo & Juliet as part of the inaugural season of Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance.
