Student Matinees

SF Ballet performances specifically designed for school groups.

Overview

Introduce your students to the joy and wonder of dance by joining San Francisco Ballet for one of our Student Matinee performances. Our Student Matinees are a wonderful way to expose students to the transformative power of creativity through the performing arts. Designed especially for school groups, Student Matinees provide an engaging introduction to classical and contemporary ballet along with a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to stage a ballet performance.

Each educational 75-minute interactive program includes:

  • An introduction to ballet as an art form
  • Performances by SF Ballet professional dancers and pre-professional Trainees from the SF Ballet School, accompanied by the SF Ballet Orchestra
  • Excerpts from some of the Company’s most extraordinary works
  • Insights into the career of a professional dancer with SF Ballet

Resources for Teachers

Make sure your students get the most out of the Student Matinee experience with our Study Guides. For each Student Matinee, you’ll find standards-based activities that challenge students to think deeply and critically about the performance and the artistic process. Our Student Matinee performances and Study Guides provide opportunities for youth to learn about, explore, and experience the performing arts. Check back in January 2019 to download the Student Matinee Study Guides for Don Quixote and The Sleeping Beauty.
