K-12 School Programs & Resources

Dance. Move. Integrate. Engage.

Dance in Schools & Communities (DISC)

For nearly 40 years, SF Ballet has partnered with San Francisco Unified School District to provide free dance education programs for K-12 students. SF Ballet’s current education programs for K-12 schools include in-school dance residencies, before-school and after-school dance residencies, professional development workshops for preK-12 educators, Student Matinee performances by the professional ballet dancers of SF Ballet accompanied by the SF Ballet Orchestra, and pre-performance classroom visits through the Student Matinee Docent Program.

Student Matinees

San Francisco Ballet Student Matinees are a great way to introduce young audiences to the joy, wonder, and excitement of ballet. Designed especially for school groups, each 75-minute program features excerpts from our most popular ballets, along with a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to stage a ballet performance. This up-close-and-personal presentation exposes students to the transformative power of creativity through the performing arts.

Resource Study Guides

Study guides prepared by San Francisco Ballet ensure public school teachers can help their students get the most out of their visit to SF Ballet. For each program, teachers will find standards-based, curriculum-approved activities that challenge students to think deeply and critically about the SF Ballet performance they experience.
