School Programs & Resources

Curriculum enriched and engaged.

Overview

Combine excitement, entertainment, and education with a robust outreach effort and you’ve got a school dance program unique in the Bay Area.

Dance in Schools & Communities (DISC)

When the arts budgets in public schools are slashed, San Francisco Ballet steps up. In the course of a school year we visit 38 schools in San Francisco Unified School District, and reach more than 3,500 students. Each year DISC identifies approximately 65 students with the potential to pursue their promise as dancers and provides them with a full scholarship to study at San Francisco Ballet School.

Student Matinees

Designed especially for school groups in grades 2 through 12, student matinees at San Francisco Ballet are a great way to introduce young people to the joy, wonder, and excitement of ballet. Each 75-minute program features excerpts from our most popular ballets, along with a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to stage a ballet performance. This up-close-and-personal presentation exposes students to the transformative power of creativity through the performing arts.

Teacher Study Guides

Study guides prepared by San Francisco Ballet ensure public school teachers can help their students get the most out of their visit to SF Ballet. For each program, teachers will find standards-based, curriculum-approved activities that challenge students to think deeply and critically about the SF Ballet performance they experience.
