Max Cauthorn created roles in King’s The Collective Agreement, Liang’s The Infinite Ocean, Lopez Ochoa’s Guernica (soloist couples), Peck’s In the Countenance of Kings, Possokhov’s Optimistic Tragedy, and Thatcher’s Ghost in the Machine and Otherness (principal). He has performed principal or featured roles in Tomasson’s Giselle (Peasant pas de cinq), Haffner Symphony (soloist), Nutcracker (Jack-in-the-Box, Dancing Nutcracker, King of the Snow, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, and Grand Pas de Deux Prince), Romeo & Juliet (Acrobats), The Sleeping Beauty (Suitors and Bluebird), Swan Lake (Aristocrats, Act 1 pas de trois, and Russian), On a Theme of Paganini (principal), and Concerto Grosso; Balanchine’s Diamonds (soloist); Caniparoli’s Ibsen’s House (“Ghosts”) and Tears; Lifar’s Suite en Blanc (pas de cinq); Peck’s Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes (3 soloist men); Possokhov’s Fusion (principal), Magrittomania (soloist), The Rite of Spring (Elders), and Swimmer (soloist); Scarlett’s Fearful Symmetries (principal) and Frankenstein (Victor Frankenstein); and Wheeldon’s Cinderella (Fates) and Rush (soloist).
His repertory includes Balanchine’s Coppélia, Allegro Brillante, Prodigal Son, Rubies, Stravinsky Violin Concerto, and Theme and Variations; Caniparoli’s Lambarena; Cranko’s Onegin; Forsythe’s Pas/Parts 2016; Morris’ Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes and Maelstrom; Possokhov’s Firebird; Ratmansky’s Shostakovich Trilogy (Symphony #9 and Piano Concerto #1); Robbins’ Glass Pieces; Thatcher’s Manifesto; Tomasson’s Bartók Divertimento, Caprice, The Fifth Season, Prism, and Trio; and Wheeldon’s Within the Golden Hour.
Max danced in the 2015 film of Tomasson’s Romeo & Juliet in the inaugural season of Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance.
