Esteban Hernandez has danced principal or featured roles in Tomasson’s Concerto Grosso, Giselle (Peasant pas de cinq), Nutcracker (Dancing Nutcracker, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese), and Swan Lake (Act 1 pas de trois and Neapolitan); Balanchine’s Prodigal Son (Son); Kobborg’s Les Lutins; Lifar’s Suite en Blanc (pas de cinq); Possokhov’s Fusion (principal), Magrittomania (soloist), and Optimistic Tragedy (Two Sailors); and Scarlett’s Fearful Symmetries (principal) and Frankenstein (Henry Clerval). He created roles in Possokhov’s Optimistic Tragedy (Marines), Scarlett’s Fearful Symmetries, Thatcher’s Ghost in the Machine, and Tomasson’s Caprice.
His repertory includes Balanchine’s Rubies and Theme and Variations; Caniparoli’s Lambarena; Cranko’s Onegin; van Manen’s Solo; Possokhov’s Firebird, Fusion, and The Rite of Spring; Ratmansky’s From Foreign Lands (Italian, Spanish, and Hungarian) and Shostakovich Trilogy (Chamber Symphony); Robbins’ Glass Pieces; Scarlett’s Hummingbird; Tomasson’s Bartók Divertimento, The Fifth Season, and Trio; and Wheeldon’s Cinderella (Autumn and Courtiers) and Continuum.
As a guest artist, Esteban performed at Gala Despertares in Guadalahara, Mexico, in July 2016. He was honored with the Latino Spirit Award from the California Latino Legislative Caucus for his achievements in the performing arts, awarded in Sacramento, California, in May 2016, and was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Mexico. He received a Jerome Robbins Foundation Award and gold medals at the Youth America Grand Prix.
