Maria Kochetkova has danced major roles in Tomasson’s Giselle (Giselle), Nutcracker (Grand Pas de Deux Ballerina and Sugar Plum Fairy), Romeo & Juliet (Juliet), and Swan Lake (Odette/Odile); Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote (Kitri); Balanchine’s Coppélia (Swanilda); Cranko’s Onegin (Tatiana); and Wheeldon’s Cinderella (Cinderella). She created principal roles in Forsythe’s Pas/Parts 2016; Liang’s Symphonic Dances; McGregor’s Borderlands; Page’s Guide to Strange Places; Possokhov’s Classical Symphony, Diving into the Lilacs, Francesca da Rimini, and Swimmer; Ratmansky’s From Foreign Lands; Tomasson’s Caprice, On a Theme of Paganini, and Trio; and Wheeldon’s Within the Golden Hour.
Her repertory includes Ashton’s Symphonic Variations; Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, Divertimento No. 15, Emeralds, Rubies, Serenade, Symphony in C, and Theme and Variations; Elo’s Double Evil; Forsythe’s Artifact Suite and in the middle, somewhat elevated; Lifar’s Suite en Blanc; MacMillan’s Winter Dreams; Makarova’s (after Petipa) “Kingdom of the Shades” from La Bayadère, Act II; McGregor’s Chroma; Morris’ Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes; Ratmansky’s Russian Seasons and Shostakovich Trilogy; Robbins’ Dances at a Gathering; Scarlett’s Hummingbird; Tomasson’s “Haffner” Symphony and Nanna’s Lied; and Wheeldon’s Ghosts and Rush. At American Ballet Theatre, Maria danced lead roles in Ashton’s Sylvia, Holmes’ (after Sergeyev/Petipa) Le Corsaire, and Ratmansky’s Golden Cockerel.
Maria danced Juliet in the 2015 film of Tomasson’s Romeo & Juliet and Grand Pas de Deux Ballerina in Tomasson’s Nutcracker on PBS’ Great Performances. Among her honors are an Isadora Duncan Dance Award for Giselle, gold medals at three international ballet competitions, and a Benois de la Danse Award nomination.
