Frances Chung’s major roles include Giselle and Myrtha in Tomasson’s Giselle; Grand Pas de Deux Ballerina and Sugar Plum Fairy in Tomasson’s Nutcracker; Enchanted Princess in Tomasson’s The Sleeping Beauty; Odette in Act 2 from Tomasson’s Swan Lake; Kitri in Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote; Swanilda in Balanchine’s Coppélia; and Cinderella and Stepsister Clementine in Wheeldon’s Cinderella. She created roles in Forsythe’s Pas/Parts 2016, McGregor’s Borderlands, Peck’s In the Countenance of Kings, Scarlett’s Fearful Symmetries and Hummingbird, Welch’s Naked, Wheeldon’s Borealis, and Zanella’s Underskin, among others.
Her repertory includes Tomasson’s Caprice, Chaconne for Piano and Two Dancers, Criss-Cross, The Fifth Season, and Trio; Ashton’s Symphonic Variations; Balanchine’s Agon, Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet, Divertimento No. 15, Emeralds, Serenade, Symphony in C, Tarantella, Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, and Theme and Variations; Elo’s Double Evil; Caniparoli’s Lambarena; Forsythe’s Artifact Suite, in the middle, somewhat elevated, and The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude; Liang’s Symphonic Dances; Lifar’s Suite en Blanc; Lubovitch’s Elemental Brubeck; MacMillan’s Winter Dreams; Makarova’s (after Petipa) “The Kingdom of the Shades” from La Bayadère, Act II, and Paquita; van Manen’s Variations for Two Couples; McGregor’s Chroma; Morris’ Maelstrom; Nureyev’s Raymonda—Act III (Raymonda); Possokhov’s Classical Symphony, Diving into the Lilacs, Francesca da Rimini, and Fusion; Ratmansky’s Russian Seasons, Seven Sonatas, and Shostakovich Trilogy; Robbins’ Dances at a Gathering; and Wheeldon’s Continuum, Rush, and Within the Golden Hour.
Frances received the Isadora Duncan Award for Outstanding Achievement in Performance (Individual) for the 2013 Repertory Season and the silver medal (the top honor) at the 2000 Adeline Genée Awards.
