Biography
Born and raised in San Francisco, Lauren Macmadu began her training at the age of 5 at the San Francisco Ballet School. Lauren completed the entire professional program, graduating from the San Francisco Ballet School. As a student, she performed roles in San Francisco Ballet’s Nutcracker and Swan Lake. Lauren also received training at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Vail, Colorado, the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Contra Costa Ballet School, The Edge and Millennium Dance Complex. In 1996, she joined the Dance Theatre of Harlem as a corps de ballet dancer. Ms. Macmadu toured the United States and internationally with the company. While with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Ms. Macmadu performed roles in Serenade, Four Temperaments, Concerto Borroco, Dougla, Fall River Legend and Firebird.
Following her ballet career, she continued dancing professionally as an Oakland Raiderette, Football’s Fabulous Females, the cheerleading squad for the Oakland Raiders professional football team. Lauren continued on to dance professionally in Los Angeles with TLC and on television and in movies. Lauren is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. Ms. Macmadu has taught ballet to students of all ages at dance schools throughout California. These include Santa Clara Ballet School, Studio 10 Dance, Lula Washington Dance Theatre and Motiv Performing Arts Center and Theater. Ms. Macmadu graduated from Golden Gate University with a Master of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications and U.C. Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.
In 2021, Ms. Macmadu returned to the San Francisco Ballet School as a ballet faculty member.
