Karen Shinozaki Sor

Biography

A familiar face on the San Francisco Bay Area music scene, Karen Shinozaki Sor joined New Century Chamber Orchestra in its inaugural season and has performed with Santa Rosa and Marin Symphonies. A supernumerary for San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, she is also a frequent chamber music collaborator, appearing with diverse groups including Santa Rosa Chamber Players, Berkeley Contemporary Chamber Players, Music at the Mission, Sor Ensemble, and Worn Ensemble.

Shinozaki Sor serves on the music faculties at the University of California at Berkeley and Marin Music Conservatory. A Bay Area native, she received her Bachelor of the Arts from University of California at Berkeley as a longtime student of Serban Rusu. She continued her studies as a recipient of The Alfred Hertz Memorial Traveling Scholarship at Bern Music School and Conservatory (Switzerland) under the tutelage of Professor Igor Ozim.

In her free time, Karen likes to relax with her cellist husband, Eugene Sor, son Kenji, and their cat Bass.
