San Francisco Ballet School Performs Student Showcase at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, May 28-30 2014
Three Performances Benefit the Prestigious San Francisco Ballet School
SAN FRANCISCO, Thursday, May 15, 2014—The San Francisco Ballet School, the official school of San Francisco Ballet, has announced the repertory for the 2014 Student Showcase. SF Ballet School’s students and faculty will present three Showcase performances, consisting of class demonstrations and repertory works, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, May 28-30, 2014. Following the performance on May 29, the San Francisco Ballet Auxiliary will host a fundraising dinner benefiting the school’s scholarship and financial aid programs.
On May 28, 29, and 30, audiences will get a glimpse of the progression in ballet training, from beginning students giving class demonstrations, to advanced-level students on the verge of professional careers. The advanced-level students will perform George Balanchine’s Raymonda Variations, J. Francisco Martinez’s Andante Sostenuto, Helgi Tomasson’s Bizet Pas de Deux, Parrish Maynard’s Muses, and Spectrum, a new work by SF Ballet Corps de Ballet member Myles Thatcher.
Note: at each performance, there will be class demonstrations by students from levels 2-8. On May 29, students will not perform Martinez’s Andante Sostenuto or Tomasson’s Bizet Pas de Deux.
“Student Showcase is a chance for our students who have trained so diligently in this art form, to shine,” said SF Ballet School Associate Director Patrick Armand. “This year’s showcase will feature a demonstration choreographed by Parrish Maynard for levels 2-8, as well as a mix of contemporary and classical works to highlight the depth and diversity of talent among our upper-level students,” he added.
Student Showcase Dinner
On Thursday, May 29 following the performance, a cocktail reception, dinner and dancing will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco, beginning at 7:30pm. This year’s Auxiliary Student Showcase Chair is Ms. Stephanie B. Russell. Dodge & Cox will return as a sponsor of the event for the 15th consecutive year.
Reservations for the fundraising dinner are $350 for patron tickets, $550 for benefactor tickets, and $1,000 for grand benefactor tickets. Patrons can also purchase the dessert reception with dancing following the dinner for $75 per person. Dinner invitations are by Dauphine Press. Wines are generously provided by William Hill Estate Winery® and La Marca Prosecco®.
This year, dinner guests will have the opportunity to participate in a Fund-A-Need live auction. All donations raised through this auction will directly support scholarship programs for the School.
The Student Showcase performances will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater on Wednesday, May 28 at 7:30pm; Thursday, May 29 at 6pm; and Friday May 30 at 7:30pm. Individual performance tickets start at $40 each, and can be purchased by contacting the Ticket Services Office at 415.865.2000.
