San Francisco Ballet School Performs Student Showcase at Novellus Theater at YBCA, May 26-28, 2010
Three Performances Benefit the Prestigious San Francisco Ballet School
SAN FRANCISCO, Tuesday, May 4, 2010—The San Francisco Ballet School, the official school of San Francisco Ballet, has announced the repertory for the 2010 Student Showcase. San Francisco Ballet School’s students and faculty will present three Showcase performances, consisting of class demonstrations and repertory works, at the Novellus Theater at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, May 26-28, 2010. Prior to the performance on May 27, the San Francisco Ballet Auxiliary will host a fundraising dinner benefiting the San Francisco Ballet School’s scholarship and financial aid programs.
Students Perform in Repertory Works
Audiences will get a glimpse of the progression in ballet training, from beginning students giving class demonstrations, to advanced-level students on the verge of professional careers. The advanced-level students will perform excerpts from SF Ballet Artistic Director & Principal Choreographer Helgi Tomasson’s production of The Sleeping Beauty and the premiere of two new works, choreographed by Shaun Amyot, faculty member at Canada’s National Ballet School, and SF Ballet School faculty member Parrish Maynard.
“The annual Student Showcase offers our students a unique opportunity to acquire invaluable performance experience while demonstrating what they’ve learned throughout the past year,” said Lola de Avila, associate director of the San Francisco Ballet School. “This year, our advanced-level will have the challenge of dancing two new works by Shaun Amyot and Parrish Maynard, in addition to more classical works including excerpts from Helgi Tomasson’s The Sleeping Beauty.”
Student Showcase Dinner
On Thursday, May 27, prior to the performance, a cocktail reception and dinner will take place at The St. Regis San Francisco at 5pm. The 2010 San Francisco Ballet Auxiliary Student Showcase Chair is Beatrice Wood.
