Estate Planning

San Francisco Ballet offers many ways for you to provide support through your estate planning. Because each offers its own unique financial benefits, you should be able to find an option that will match your personal financial plans and philanthropic goals.

Gifts by Bequest
Bequests are a popular and convenient way to support the Ballet. By naming the Endowment Foundation in your will or living trust, you can make a meaningful gift while maintaining control of your assets during life. Your gift to the Ballet may be either a specific amount of money or a percentage of your estate, or you may include the Ballet as a contingent beneficiary.

Gifts That Provide Income
Whether you establish a charitable remainder trust or make a gift to the Ballet's pooled income fund, you receive a twofold benefit: you receive an annual income during your lifetime, and you can claim an immediate charitable deduction for a portion of your gift. If you prefer, you can have the income paid to a loved one. When income payments cease, the remainder of your gift is added to the Ballet’s endowment. Both options are ideal for Ballet patrons who have highly appreciated, low-yielding stock and who would like to receive a higher income or provide support for a friend or family member. Charitable remainder trusts are a good option for people who wish to donate real estate and receive an income in return.

Other Gift Options
  • You can designate the Endowment Foundation as the beneficiary of your retirement plan assets.
  • You can name the Endowment Foundation as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy that you hold but no longer need to support family.
  • You can donate your primary residence or vacation home, retain the right to live there during your lifetime, and claim an immediate charitable income tax deduction.
  • You can donate any type of real estate and claim an immediate income tax deduction.
However you choose to include San Francisco Ballet in your plans, your gift will have a meaningful impact on the future of dance. As a donor, you will be invited to become part of The Legacy Circle and an important member of the Ballet family.

The Ballet’s planned giving office is happy to provide additional information about the options and to work with you and your advisors as you consider your gift. Please contact Allison Groves, planned giving manager, at legacycircle@sfballet.info or 415.865.4784.
