For the past 10 years, Deborah has been working as a dance artist, dividing her time between teaching, performing, and choreographing. Deborah’s dance training began in her hometown of San Diego and continued at the University of Michigan, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in dance. She was a seven-year member of the Nancy Meehan Dance Company while choreographing and presenting her own work in theaters, salons, and rooftops throughout New York. As a dance educator, she is most influenced by her studies with Celeste Miller, June Ekman, and Janet Panetta and has brought her passion for movement investigation, creative somatic inquiry, and community involvement to children, youth, and adults through her teaching with Jacob’s Pillow Curriculum in Motion, Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, the Arts & Literacy Program of the Coalition for Hispanic Family Services, and the multidisciplinary art group Arte Acción in Honduras. She proudly joined the DISC program in 2012.
