Seeing the World of Dance in a New Way!

Developed by Center for Dance Education staff members Charles Chip McNeal and Stacey Blakeman, in collaboration with Media Arts Specialist John Crawford from University of California, Irvine, Dance-IT: Dance and Information Technology, is an interactive digital media exhibit that introduces people to dance from around the world. This installation engages both those who love seeing dance and those who may know nothing about the art form at all. Dance-IT incorporates several different dance styles, including: West African, Tahitian, Kathak, and Mexican Folkloric. Participants have the opportunity to interact with the exhibit and try out some of their own dance moves if they choose.

In April 2008, the San Francisco Ballet Center for Dance Education (CDE) presented Dance-IT at the San Francisco Main Public Library. During the month of November, Dance-IT went to Southern California to the University of California-- Irvine, and the Orange County Performing Arts Center as part of San Francisco Ballet’s American Tour, bringing this exciting educational display to the public again. Stay tuned for future Dance-It event information!
