Seeing the World of Dance in a New Way!
In April of 2008, the San Francisco Ballet Center for Dance Education (CDE) presented Dance-IT, Dance and Information Technology, an interactive digital media installation at the San Francisco Main Public Library. This project was developed by Center for Dance Education staff members Charles Chip Mc Neal and Stacey Blakeman, in collaboration with Media Arts Specialist, John Crawford from University of California, Irvine.
CDE produced this installation which both engaged people who love seeing dance, and educated the community about dance from around the world. The installation incorporated several different dance styles including; West African, Tahitian, Kathak, and Mexican Folkloric, among others. This exhibit went beyond just teaching you about dance by giving the participant a chance to be in it! Participants had an opportunity to interact with and influence the behaviors of the digital media content presented in the exhibit.
Dance-IT was free and open to the public and exhibited in the Fisher Children’s Center of the San Francisco Public Library Main Branch on Larkin Street from April 4 – May 4, 2008.
