Dance Scholar and Educator Mary Wood, along with other guests, hosts each program in salon-style interviews with San Francisco Ballet dancers, guest artists, choreographers, musicians, and designers.
Pointes of View is held on pre-selected Wednesday evenings from 6–7pm in the Green Room, located on the second floor of the Veterans Building, or in Herbst Theatre, on the ground floor of the Veterans Building. Conveniently located across the courtyard from the War Memorial Opera House at 401 Van Ness Avenue (at McAllister Street), these hour-long lectures are free and open to the public.
Wood received a BFA from the University of Utah and performed for nine years with Ballet West under the directorship of Willam Christensen. After relocating to San Francisco in 1975, she taught children’s and adult ballet technique and ballet history at the San Francisco Ballet School, pioneered the Dance in Schools program, and was principal lecturer for community outreach efforts during the 1980s. She has moderated the Pointes of View Lectures since 1986 the Meet the Artist Interviews since 1995, and serves as a guest lecturer of San Francisco Ballet’s adult education program, Ballet 101.
