Born in Havana, Cuba, Carlos Quenedit trained at Cuba’s National Ballet School. He began his career at Ballet Nacional de Cuba and has danced with Miami City Ballet, Ballet de Monterrey, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and Joffrey Ballet. He joined San Francisco Ballet as a soloist in 2012 and was promoted to principal dancer in 2014.

At San Francisco Ballet, Quenedit has danced principal or featured roles in Tomasson’s Nutcracker (Prince), Romeo & Juliet (Romeo, on tour in Washington, D.C.), Swan Lake, Criss-Cross, The Fifth Season, and Trio; Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote (Basilio); Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante (principal), Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet (1st and 2nd movement principals), and Symphony in Three Movements; van Manen’s Variations for Two Couples; Ratmansky’s Shostakovich Trilogy (Symphony #9); McGregor’s Borderlands, Nureyev’s Raymonda—Act III (Jean de Brienne); Page’s Guide to Strange Places; Possokhov’s Classical Symphony, Francesca da Rimini (Paolo), and The Rite of Spring; and Wheeldon’s Cinderella (Prince Gillaume) and Number Nine.

Quenedit’s repertory also includes Alicia Alonzo’s Romeo and Juliet (Tybalt, Paris, and Benvolio) and Don Quixote (Espada); Balanchine’s Concerto Barocco, Ballet Imperial, The Four Temperaments, Serenade, Symphony in C, and Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux; Possokhov’s Don Quixote; Robbins’ In the Night; and Wheeldon’s Liturgy.

As a guest artist, Quenedit danced at the International Ballet Gala 2014: World Ballet Superstars in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in August 2014. He danced The Nutcracker with Sarah Van Patten at San Jose Dance Theatre in San Jose, California, in December 2013, and performed the pas de classique from Vaganova’s Diana & Acteon at Teatro Calderon’s Gala in Valladolid, Spain.

In 2001 Quenedit was awarded 1st place and Best Individual Interpretation at the International Ballet Festival of Havana.
