SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Monday, June 2, 2014–San Francisco Ballet has announced six promotions, as well as the addition of one new soloist, two new corps de ballet members, and six new apprentices for the 2015 Repertory Season, effective June 1. Soloists Luke Ingham and Carlos Quenedit have been promoted to principal dancers and Joseph Walsh has joined the Company as a soloist. In addition, Carolyn Lippert and Skyla Schreter have joined the corps de ballet, along with the following former apprentices who have been promoted to the corps de ballet: Max Cauthorn, Aaron Renteria, Miranda Silveira, and Mingxuan Wang. The new apprentices joining the Company include: Samantha Bristow, Thamires Chuvas, Benjamin Freemantle, Norika Matsuyama, John-Paul Simoens, and Ami Yuki.

Promotions

Luke Ingham, from Mount Gambier, South Australia, joined SF Ballet as a soloist in 2012. Ingham has performed with both the Australian Ballet and Houston Ballet and received his training at the Australian Ballet School. Since joining the Company, Ingham has performed a number of lead roles including Hilarion and Albrecht in Helgi Tomasson’s Giselle, the Prince in Christopher Wheeldon’s Cinderella, the Prince and Snow King in Tomasson’s Nutcracker, and Onegin in John Cranko’s Onegin. In addition, he has performed principal roles in ballets such as George Balanchine’s Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet; Rudolf Nureyev’s Raymonda, Act III; Alexei Ratmansky’s From Foreign Lands; Liam Scarlett’s Hummingbird; Tomasson’s Caprice; and Wheeldon’s Within the Golden Hour. Carlos Quenedit hails from Havana, Cuba and joined the Company as a soloist in 2012. Prior to SF Ballet, Quenedit was with a number of companies including Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Miami City Ballet, and The Joffrey Ballet, among others. During his tenure with the Company, Quenedit has performed lead roles such as Basilio in Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote, the Prince in Tomasson’s Nutcracker, and the Prince in Wheeldon’s Cinderella, among others. Quenedit has also performed principal roles in ballets such as Wayne McGregor’s Chroma, Ashley Page’s Guide to Strange Places, Yuri Possokhov’s Francesca da Rimini, Ratmansky’s Symphony #9, Tomasson’s Trio and The Fifth Season, and Wheeldon’s Number Nine.

Four apprentices from the 2014 Repertory Season have been appointed corps de ballet members with the Company. They include Max Cauthorn who hails from San Francisco and is a former SF Ballet School student and Trainee. Cauthorn has performed a number of works with the Company including Serge Lifar’s Suite en Blanc, Ratmansky’s Symphony #9, and Tomasson’s Caprice, among others. Aaron Renteria, from Corona, California, is a former SF Ballet School student and Trainee; he has performed in works with SF Ballet such as Possokhov’s Firebird, Jerome Robbins’ Glass Pieces, and Tomasson’s Nutcracker, among others. Miranda Silveira hails from Spain and was a former SF Ballet School student and Trainee. She has performed in a number of works with SF Ballet, such as Makarova’s The Kingdom of the Shades from La Bayadére, Act II and Ratmansky’s Symphony #9 and Piano Concerto #1, among others. Originally from China, Mingxuan Wang is a former SF Ballet School student and Trainee and has performed with the Company in works such as Robbins’ Glass Pieces, and Tomasson’s Nutcracker and Giselle.

New Company Members

Carolyn Lippert, of Fresno, California, previously danced with the Washington Ballet’s Studio Company, after two seasons with ABT’s (American Ballet Theatre) Studio Company. Lippert trained at California Arts Academy with her mother, Carla Stallings-Lippert, a former dancer with ABT and Boston Ballet. Lippert has performed in ABT’s Nutcracker, in Yellowstone Ballet’s Giselle, and Central California Ballet’s Nutcracker. She attended ABT’s New York Summer Intensive for four summers. Skyla Schreter, originally from Chappaqua, New York, was most recently at Boston Ballet II. Schreter received her primary ballet training at the School of American Ballet (SAB) and attended summer programs on full merit scholarship at Boston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell. She has performed numerous children’s roles with New York City Ballet. In addition to participating in the Works and Process Series at the Guggenheim Museum, she has performed in numerous student choreographic workshops and demonstrations for the SAB and the New York Choreographic Institute. Joseph Walsh, originally from Pennsylvania, will join the Company as a soloist. Walsh trained at a number of schools including American Ballet Theatre and Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy. Walsh was a member of Houston Ballet II prior to joining Houston Ballet in 2007. There, he was promoted to soloist in 2010 and two years later, to principal dancer. At Houston Ballet, Walsh was featured in a variety of ballets and roles including Lensky in Cranko’s Onegin, Hans van Manen’s Solo, the Prince in Stevenson's The Nutcracker, Antony Tudor’s The Leaves are Fading, and William Forsythe’s The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude. In 2009 he was awarded a Princess Grace Award.

New Apprentices

Six new apprentices have been named for the 2015 Repertory Season. As apprentices, these dancers will take Company class and perform corps de ballet roles in SF Ballet’s diverse repertory. All new apprentices are former Trainees with San Francisco Ballet School. They include Samantha Bristow from Media, Pennsylvania; Thamires Chuvas, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Benjamin Freemantle of Port Moody, British Columbia; Norika Matsuyama, a native of Japan; John-Paul Simoens from San Pedro, California; and Ami Yuki from Saitama, Japan.
