Born in Rostov, Russia, Gennadi Nedvigin trained at the Bolshoi School and danced with Le Jeune Ballet de France and Moscow Renaissance Ballet before joining San Francisco Ballet as a soloist in 1997. Three years later, he was promoted to principal dancer. His lead roles include Albrecht in Tomasson’s Giselle, Nutcracker Prince in Tomasson’s Nutcracker, Mercutio in Tomasson’s Romeo & Juliet, and Prince Desiré and Bluebird in Tomasson’s The Sleeping Beauty; Basilio in Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote; and Aminta in Morris’ Sylvia. He created roles in Adam’s Angelo and A rose by any other name, Morris’ Joyride, and Possokhov’s Magrittomania and Fusion. His repertory includes a principal roles in Balanchine’s Symphony in C, Theme and Variations, Square Dance, “Rubies,” and the Son in Prodigal Son; Forsythe’s Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude; Lubovitch’s Othello; MacMillan’s The Invitation; van Manen’s Black Cake, Solo, and Grosse Fuge; Morris’ Sandpaper Ballet, Maelstrom, Pacific, and A Garden; Possokhov’s Reflections, Damned, and Study in Motion; Taylor’s Company B; Tudor’s Gala Performance; Welch’s Taiko, Tu Tu, and Falling; and Wheeldon’s Polyphonia. Nedvigin’s honors include an Isadora Duncan Dance Award for ensemble performance in 2001 and he tied for the Erik Bruhn Prize at the 5th International Ballet Competition in 1999. He has been a guest artist with several companies, including Ballet de Santiago.
