Kristin Long

Born: Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Named Apprentice in 1989. Joined in 1990. Promoted to Soloist in 1992, to Principal Dancer in 1999.

Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Kristin Long trained at Allegheny Ballet Academy, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet School. Named an apprentice in 1989, she joined the Company in 1990, was promoted to soloist in 1992, and to principal dancer in 1999. She has performed the lead role in works such as Tomasson’s Giselle, Swan Lake, Romeo & Juliet, and Nutcracker; and Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote. She created principal roles in Adam’s A rose by any other name; Bintley’s The Dance House; Possokhov’s Study in Motion, Reflections, and Fusion; Tomasson’s Soirées Musicales; and Welch’s Tu Tu, Falling, and Naked, among others. Long’s repertory also includes Ashton’s Symphonic Variations; Balanchine’s Western Symphony, Serenade, Symphony in C, Who Cares?, Square Dance, “Rubies”, and Theme and Variations; de Mille’s Rodeo; Forsythe’s Artifact Suite, The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude, and in the middle, somewhat elevated; Robbins’ Dances at a Gathering and Interplay; Taylor’s Company B and Spring Rounds; Tomasson’s Blue Rose, 7 for Eight, and Chaconne for Piano and Two Dancers; and Wheeldon’s Continuum, Quaternary, and Rush. Long’s awards include the Isadora Duncan Dance Award for ensemble performance in 2001 and the Princess Grace Foundation Award in 1990. She has performed as a guest artist with several companies, including English National Ballet.
